Miss Earth Belize Paris Cawich
[00:27.5]
Miss Earth Belize is being interviewed by Macarena Rose of Belize Talk Radio.
Hello, it’s Macarena from Belize Talk Radio. And what are we doing today? We have the honor and privilege of being just recently the crowned Miss Earth Belize. And her name is Paris Cawich Mateo. And welcome to Belize Talk Radio. Thank you so much.
[00:43.3]
Thank you for having me. I’m so excited. I’m with you. It is such an honor to be with you here today. Lovely. So let’s start the beginning. Your beautiful name. You have Paris as your beautiful first name, right? Yes. And then Cawich and Mateo.
How did you get your Name?
[00:59.7]
And I don’t even know your middle name. Tell me more. Okay. So my name is Paris. Reason being because it’s my mother’s dream city. She’s always loved Paris and she visited Paris and she made sure that she named her first child Paris. And then my middle name is Joanne, which is actually a combination of my dad’s name and my mom’s name, Joe for Joaquin and an for Antonia.
[01:23.4]
And then my last names are Cawich and Mateo. Cawich is my father’s last name, which he is from Belize, but the, last name originates from Mexico, which is from the Aztecan Mayas. And then my mom’s middle name.
[01:40.2]
My mom’s last name, sorry, is from Guatemala and it is very Hispanic. Mateo. Yes. So this is what fascinates me. When I was first looking at coming to Belize over 21 years ago, I actually was just amazed that Belize has such a melting pot of cultures and ethnicities.
Belize is a Melting Pot of People
[01:59.9]
And we’re one lovely melting pot of where people all get along together, right? Yes. But it gives us such cultural opportunities of different foods and dances and music and history. Yes. Actually, my family came to Belize from Guatemala, due to the migration of the Central American countries coming to Belize, finding refuge in this country because it was very new, it was very newly developed, and it was back then inhabited by the English.
[02:30.5]
Yes. And, that’s just like me. There are many, many people here, and that’s why we have many different foods, we have many different languages, different cultural habits, and it’s so lovely to be in Belize because you get to experience all of that. And I love that you are representing Belize on the international worldwide platform.
Miss Earth Belize, Competes in the Philippines
[02:50.0]
Right. You’re going to soon do the Miss Earth, right? Yes, that’s right. I’m going to be competing in the Philippines in November. Wow. Philippines. Oh, that’s amazing. So Belize is going to the Philippines. That’s fabulous. And before that, how did you get into this platform of wanting to represent Belize with such royalty?
[03:10.3]
Thank you. So I’ve always had a love and admiration for beauty queens. I love how they are a voice for their country and for different causes. So I actually competed in my first pageant in Belize in 2022, I competed in Miss World Belize, and I got the privilege of becoming Miss Intercontinental Belize at that pageant.
[03:33.1]
And then in 2023, I actually competed in Egypt to represent Belize internationally. Yes, Egypt. Did you love Egypt? It was amazing. I mean, the camels, the sand dunes. Everything was beautiful.
[03:48.2]
And the Red Sea, such an awe. It’s one of my favorite places. I’ve been there five times. I went there the first time as a child when I was 10 with my mother. Never will forget it. Right. But it’s a passion, and we have friends and what we consider family members there. So. Wow. How wonderful.
Belize Represented in Egypt
[04:03.3]
You got to go to Egypt. Yes. It was so beautiful. A month with the girls, getting to know their different. Different histories, their cultures, their countries, the different, advocacies that they stand for, what they’re passionate about. And they were, I believe it was 85 countries that I competed with, and I spent a month with them, and I got to know them very, very well.
[04:26.1]
How beautiful. Well, I have to say that you’re a beautiful representation of Belize. Thank you very much. She’s a beautiful woman. I also have to say that I’m very attracted to your beautiful heart of wanting to protect the environment. And your platform is very powerful.
[04:43.1]
In real estate, we see people develop things, and sometimes not intentionally and not getting the right permits. And we stress that those are important things to do, for sure. Right, but your platform is that. So where did your love of the, like, the reforestation and all of these things come from?
Miss Earth Belize has a Passion of Reforestation and Conservation
[04:59.3]
The passion. Okay. So my platform is actually the reforestation and conservation of our rainforests and mangroves. The love and passion for it grew because I am from the mainland, and I have noticed how important our rainforest is.
[05:16.0]
It inhabits many, many animals. It also helps our environment so much in different ways. And also the mangroves. I realized that the importance of the mangroves are huge. I mean, for example, also they’re inhabitants of many sea creatures, and they protect us from natural disasters.
[05:36.3]
So they’re very important. And being a person from the mainland, I always grew up protecting our trees, always looking for, looking for ways to help our environment and that was instilled by me in me, by my parents.
[05:52.9]
They did a great job. They did a great job. Thank you for sure. I want to thank you for taking time today to share your passion and your mission. Right. And personally congratulations. Thank you very much. I mean that’s really wow.
Good Luck Miss Earth Belize competing in the Philippines
